Detroit Dark Red beet (Beta vulgaris) is an heirloom variety from the 1800's that is still the most popular red beet for home gardeners. Mid-sized, blood-red roots are sweet and delicious. Hardy tops make excellent steamed or stir-fried leafy greens. A dependable classic.
