Native to western North America, California Poppy (Eschscholszia californica) is one of the easiest-to-grow wildflowers. Perennial in mild climates and readily re-seeding in all climates, California Poppy stays put once established, is not picky about soil, and requires little attention. It will bloom year-round in Mediterranean Southern California. Its silky orange flowers are attractive to bees and other pollinators. The entire plant is used medicinally by indigenous peoples of the west. A tea made from the leaves and flowers has known sedative and anti-anxiety effect, along with aiding a troubled sleep.
